I went to get a cup of coffee and got distracted from productive work for the next half hour because just 2 inches from our kitchen window a large spider was eating a meal. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this from the “underside” of a spider. Or that close.
Oh for a DSLR with a terrific lens (email me if you need my address).
But I did get to capture a bit of the excitement with my easy-to-take-overseas Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, which actually has a pretty amazing Leica lens and gets some surprising results. Did I mention that these photos were all taken through a (dirty!) window?
The arrow is pointing to the meal. Either another spider or a bee, I think. Early on in the meal I could see the legs and something that looked like a head with lots of eyes. But it was hard to see.
Not very many biblical references to spiders. All I could come up with were:
Job 8:14 His confidence is severed,
and his trust is spiders web.
Isa 59:5 They hatch adders eggs;
they weave the spiders web;
he who eats their eggs dies,
and from one that is crushed a viper is hatched.
This thing was in our basement last week! Sitting on a pile of laundry. It was so big that if I’d smashed it, I would’ve had to vacuum the remains. Mom caught it in a jar and released it in the backyard…where it probably immediately started making for the basement again.
Great pics!
