This is my kind of wine
Love this.
Love this.
Ruby and I wandered around the NC Museum of Life & Science today. I love how this iPhone photo captured a moment of wonder in Ruby’s reflection on the glass of the poison dart exhibit. Always keep your eyes open and your camera at the ready.
I found this while editing some photos from last Spring. I just love it.
This is a re-posting. I am adding two photos of snowflakes I took yesterday (Dec 4, 2010) in Durham, NC. I could not believe we had snow! I ran outside and shot these macros hand-held. Not great, but I was so excited. Will get out more this winter and work on some new techniques. It’s [...]
I’m still playing with my iPhone 3GS and macro photography. I have had some success using a small Bausch & Lomb 20x Hastings lens held directly to the camera lens on the phone body. My main frustration is with the curved back of the iPhone 3GS. I am very much looking forward to next year [...]
Move over Davy Jones, you aren’t the only one with slimy tentacles. In fact, the orange growth I found in the cedar trees at the NC Museum of Life and Science could have been inspiration for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie’s character. I took these photos on May 19, 2010, after a few days [...]
You might get the impression from my Tweets and blog posts that I only pay attention to the bears at the NC Museum of Life and Science. While it’s true that the bears hold a special place in my heart, we are non-discriminatory when it comes to giving attention to all the critters at the [...]
I’ve just got to figure out a way to take photos like this (another beauty from the Nikon Small World contest previous winners). Peter Parks, Atlanta peronii (gastropod mollusk) (170X)
We’ve lived in Durham, NC, for a full year. While we were somewhat prepared to endure the hot and humid summers, we had no idea what we were in for with pollen. But we have learned quickly. We are fortunate because we don’t have allergies to deal with. But we still had to learn to [...]
I was inspired today when I viewed this blog: Where I Write: Fantasy & Science Fiction Authors in their creative spaces. I started to wonder what the things you keep around your office say about you, your work, your inspiration. Then I decided to get brave. I took some photos of my own office space… [...]
Seen at the NC Botanical Garden this week. I’ve been seeing spirals everywhere this week! I’m loving my new Panasonic GF1. Hoping to sell a bunch of books and get a macro lens. This shot was taken with the 20mm f1.7 micro four thirds “pancake” lens. Still learning the camera, but having lots of fun. [...]
sANTa is coming to town. From the good folks at Myrmecos.
Free ferry ride to Algiers Point. Nice views of downtown early in the morning. I’m staying in the Sheraton. Book exhibit (best place to be at SBL) is in the Marriott across the street.
With all the concern over getting sick, you might think that there is nothing good that can come from microbes. Not so. Check out these galleries of artwork generated in petri dishes.
Sometimes survival means lying, stealing, or vanishing in place. Great slide show on National Geographic site. Photographs by Christian Ziegler. HT: Michael Zhang via Twitter (@petapixel)
